Linearity, simplicity, harmony: this is the concept behind a sculpture. A harmony of the sense of sight between material and idea. Fashion adds a touch of fluidity, an idea of movement sometimes difficult to represent in art. Can a suit be a sculpture? Can art be worn? Maybe.
Modern designers have taken this as their predecessors for their new collections, admiring the beauty they have around, the architectural beauty made of lines and joints that are often overlooked.
So then, for this spring season, fashion looks around. How does Fendi, which takes its cue from the Eternal City for his creations. A mix of past and present encased in dresses with delicate floral patterns, and Prabal Gurung combining oriental charm to dresses with clean and precise lines, highlighted by contrasting colors.
Victoria Beckham is approaching a more contemporary and cosmopolitan architecture, where there is no excess or vulgarity, but extremely clean and refined, like Zara, leader of low cost, where the extreme linearity contrasts the audacity of fabrics and leather neoprene. Both lead to memory of those cities in Old Europe, where the architecture is almost gaunt, but elegant and functional as their hallmark.
Versace follows this model, differing only to bring more color, more glam, a style more ‘newyorksese’, where there are details of color or metal to break the monotony of the regularity of the lines. Is this sort of architectural dress showing a lack of boldness or sensuality? No. It is still Versace.
To act as a bridge between these two cultures, we think that Thakoon weaving fabrics, colors, lines and patterns opens the way to new ideas, where the mix and the respect of the past are never lacking even in the most contemporary creations.
