The Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, which opened in 2006, dominates the top floor of the house located on the Champs-Elysées.
The space is designed to sponsor emerging artists in contemporary art and to give them the opportunity to be known through this prestigious showcase. The Espace Culturel hosts three exhibitions each year dedicated to travel, culture, art, and fashion.
This year the exhibition, curated by Michiko Kono, is titled “The Common Thread” and is animated by eight contemporary artists: Ghada Amer, Tracey Emin, Isa Melsheimer, Hans Op de Beeck, Michael Raedecker, Fred Sandback, Chiharu Shiota, and Tatiana Trouvé.
The Common Thread considers the wire as the primary means used by contemporary artists to create an infinite number of creations and artwork. Indeed interlacing and combining different colors and yarns can create works and sculptures of different genres, showing how contemporary art directs and influences fashion.
First stage of the show was Munich with Ghada Amer, Tracey Emin and Michael Raedecker, then February 6 it was the turn of Paris with Isa Melsheimer, Fred Sandback and Chiharu Shiota. The show in Tokyo will see the collaboration of Tatiana trouvé, Ghada Amer and Michael Raedecker.
Hans Op de Beeck’s will be present in all three areas.
